Crafting a winning pitchdeck

Investors need clarity and confidence in your idea. A structured pitch deck helps tell your story, demonstrate value, and outline how you’ll succeed.

A well-structured pitch deck should cover the following:

Problem: What issue are you solving?

Solution: Why is your approach the best?

Market opportunity: Is there demand?

Product: Show, don’t just tell (demos matter)

Business model: How will you make money?

Traction: Any evidence that people want this?

Go-to-market strategy: How will you grow?

Competition: How are you different?

Team: Are you the right people for this?

Ask: What do you need (investment, partnerships, etc.)?

From idea to investment

Guest lecturer at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP), London | February, 2025

I was fortunate to speak to some exceptional students of the Masters (MA) in Music Business course. The course focuses on real-world application and innovative approaches to music business education, offering students opportunities to test startup MVPs, participate in masterclasses, and engage with industry professionals.

My talk, "From idea to investment", was timely, as the students are working on their own pitch decks this semester. They were highly engaged and asked thoughtful questions.

The session explored the journey from idea to investment for music startups, addressing common challenges founders face, how to refine ideas into investable concepts, and the importance of proving market demand. I also shared practical tips on creating effective pitch decks, building genuine industry connections, and understanding what investors seek beyond a strong idea.
